Porochista Khakpour in conversation with Elif Batuman for BROWN ALBUM
We were delighted to celebrate the release of Porochista Khakpour’s latest essay collection, Brown Album, with author Elif Batuman.
Spanning ten years of writing, Brown Album explores race, class, immigration, and identity. From early years in Los Angeles, caught between her family’s modest background and the flashy community of wealthy Iranians, to New York City in the aftermath of 9/11 to the 2016 elections, Khakpour’s signature intelligence, biting wit, and fearlessness shines through. Each essay illuminates the collision of the personal and the political in Khakpour’s life, whether as a writer, as an American, as an immigrant, or, more often, as all these things and more. If you missed her conversation with Elif Batuman, you can watch it here.
