Chelsea Bieker joined us for the launch of her debut novel, Godshot, with writer T Kira Madden and Marisa Siegel, editor-in-chief of The Rumpus.
Lacey May and her mother live in Peaches, a Central California town that, once beautiful, is now full of raisin farms in a drought. When a local cult leader promises to bring rain, the town’s residents quickly fall in line, Lacey included. That is, until her mother leaves her behind after being exiled from the cult. Chelsea Bieker skilfully balances bleakness and hope at every level of this dark, incisive novel. A hypnotic coming-of-age story.
