Rebecca Dinerstein Knight in conversation with Alexandra Schwartz for HEX
We had the pleasure of hosting Rebecca Dinerstein Knight to discuss her latest novel Hex with Alexandra Schwartz, staff writer for The New Yorker.
Written in lush prose, Hex is composed of the journal entries of Nell Barber, a PhD student studying botanical poisons and their antidotes who is expelled along with her class after another student dies. Nell slowly fills her apartment with poisonous plants, determined to continue her research, as her fascination with her former supervisor Dr. Joan Kallas deepens into obsession. The two scientists become enmeshed in a web of illicit relationships as the desires and ambitions of their tight circle of six collide. A truly propulsive and enchanting read, Hex is Rebecca’s second novel. Her nonfiction has appeared in The New York Times, The Guardian, and The New Yorker online, among others, and she has received a Wallant Award for Jewish Literature.
