In April, we hosted C Pam Zhang for a discussion of her debut novel, How Much of These Hills Is Gold, with writer Alice Sola Kim.
Lucy and Sam have barely arrived in the gold rush-era West Coast when their father dies, leaving them alone in an unfamiliar and unwelcoming landscape. A much-needed reimagining of the Western genre, the siblings encounter the cruelty and erasure of American expansionism again and again on their journey to bury their father.
