Celebrity Book Clubs

Celebrity Book Clubs

By Camryn and the BAM Team

Celebrity book clubs are big right now. Long gone are the days of Oprah being the only celebrity to influence our reading habits. If you throw a stone, you’re bound to hit a celebrity (usually a white woman) with a new book club: Jenna Bush Hager, Reese Witherspoon, Dua Lipa, Florence Welch, Kaia Gerber the list goes on and on

We thought it might be fun to dream up our own book clubs for different celebrities, and guess what they might recommend.

– Camryn

Gabrielle Union

I think Gabrielle Union would have a cool book club with a lot of romance since she’s talked about loving it in the past and continues to star in or produce rom-coms. I think she would pick diverse books starring women of color like Just for the Summer by Abby Jimenez, A Love Song for Ricki Wilde by Tia Williams, and Drunk on Love by Jasmine Guillory.

– Camryn

Justin Bieber

He would definitely have a club recommending Break the Cycle by Mariel Buqué, Polysecure by Jessica Fern, It Didn't Start With You Mark Wolynn, and The Body Keeps the Score by Bessel van der Kolk.

Anya Taylor-Joy

Emily Wilde’s Encyclopedia of Faeries by Heather Fawcett
I think she chooses work that subverts or engages in tradition and this book does both.

Mave Fly by CJ Leede
I feel like she’s the type of person who likes profound truths soaked in viscera.

Red Rabbit by Alex Grecian
It’s dark, it’s humorous, it’s otherworldly and that’s how I would describe Anya.

– Kevin

Paul Mescal

I think these books represent the yearning, relationships, loneliness, and intensity that Paul Mescal is drawn to.

On Earth We’re Briefly Gorgeous by Ocean Vuong
The Hour of the Star by Clarice Lispector
Small Things Like These by Claire Keegan

– Isabella

Jennifer Lopez

Since she’s been creating so much work about her relationship, specifically her new marriage with Ben Affleck, I think she’d want to highlight stories about relationships in her book club.

Attached by Amir Levine and Rachel Heller
Fates and Furies by Lauren Groff
The Time Traveler’s Wife by Audrey Niffenegger

– Camryn

*Editor’s Note: This blog post was written before the divorce allegations came out about Ben and Jen. Whoops!
Now, we don’t know if this is true (yet), we know better than to believe everything we read on the internet! However, given the circumstances, I’d like to add The Husbands by Holly Gramazio to this list. I loved this book. JLo will always give love another chance, and this main character learns how to, too! No matter how crazy those dudes might be. – Jules

FKA Twigs

I think that she would like the sort of dark, sexual aspects as someone who is both sexualized and sexualizing herself in different ways. She also would relate to dark Black Girl Vibes Energy.

Hysteria by Jessica Gross
Luster by Raven Leilani
Open Water by Caleb Azumah Nelson

– Princess

Bad Bunny

Victim by Andrew Boryga
The author is Puerto Rican and grew up in the Bronx, where the book takes place, and has to do a lot with gentrification.

House of Bone and Rain by Gabino Iglesias
It’s set in Puerto Rico by a Puerto Rican writer and deals with a lot of the social issues from the same area that he grew up in.

Come as You Are by Emily Nagoski
A lot of his music is about the focus on female pleasure, so is his song Safaera.

The Puerto Rican War by John Vasquez Mejias
It’s about Puerto Rican history!
