Adrian Tomine in conversation with Wyatt Cenac for THE LONELINESS OF THE LONG-DISTANCE CARTOONIST
Adrian Tomine joined us to celebrate his most recent book, The Loneliness of the Long-Distance Cartoonist, with comedian Wyatt Cenac at the end of July.
In this graphic memoir, Adrian Tomine guides readers through a series of cringeworthy humiliations and failures with gentle, self-deprecating humor and wisdom. These vignettes, which come from throughout the trajectory of Tomine’s life and career, steadily gain emotional resonance through mortifyingly intimate details which Tomine dispenses with dry humor and honesty, welcoming the reader into his inner world. Drawn in bold black and white in the style of a sketchbook–complete with a Moleskine-style ribbon and elastic band–this book reinforces Tomine’s position as a cartoonist in his prime.
