Four Way Books Poetry Reading with Tommye Blount and Cynthia Cruz

Four Way Books Poetry Reading with Tommye Blount and Cynthia Cruz

We had the pleasure of hosting a Four Way Books poetry reading to celebrate Tommye Blount’s Fantasia for the Man in Blue and Cynthia Cruz’s Guidebooks for the Dead, with readings by poets Helen Fremont, Elizabeth T. Gray Jr., and Peter Schireson.

Intimate, evocative, and fearless, the poems of Fantasia for the Man in Blue provide vivid  meditations on the Black queer body as a site of desire and violence. Tommye Blount writes with visceral physicality and lyricism that make his debut captivating. Cynthia Cruz’s latest collection invites readers into an eerie, foreboding universe all the more unrecognizable for being so close to reality. The poems pay homage to the women who struggled to create in a hostile landscape as the narrator locates her place among them. If you missed the reading, you can watch it here.
