Recommended Reading: Nyani's Favorites

Nyani Warner was our amazing intern last season from Brooklyn Collaborative Studies right here in Cobble Hill! In the course of her internship Nyani expanded her bookish knowledge and helped curate our kid’s section with the children’s specialists! Read up on some of her favorite finds:

We Are Not Broken, George M. Johnson

We are not broken tells the story of four children being raised by their grandmother who they call Nanny. She teaches them morals and values, and to always stay close to each other. The boys cherish these memories knowing that they are never broken. You never know when it could be the last time you are with your loved ones. The story gives a warm sense of thankfulness that makes you feel safe no matter what. This book has so much love in it and makes you realize how grateful you are or should be.

Nothing Burns Brighter Than You, Ashley Woodfolk

In Nothing Burns as Bright As You two best friends become more as their affections for each other grow. I would recommend this book not only because I like it but because I think it would be a very good book for teens. or anyone who likes romance. Everything that you feel may not be the best decision even though you may think so. Because the characters had these intense feelings for each other, I was frustrated that they did not take their relationship to the next level! But reading this reminded me that sometimes it's best to leave things how they are. And that's a life lesson for anything.

The North Star, Peter Reynolds

The North Star is about a boy who was on this journey just walking through the breeze through the forest, the sun and the clouds. The boy did not know where he was going at all. He didn't know his way but all he knew was that he was going somewhere. There is a point on his journey when he wanted to give up but he knew he couldn't. I would recommend this book to people because it teaches a life lesson of perseverance. The lesson is even if you don't know what you want to do in life, find a plan and start your journey no matter what. Everything that you do is for you, and your future. If you feel like you want to give up and not do anything anymore, still push yourself because no one is going to do it for you; and you will receive great things ahead. This book is for all ages too.
